Android, a kind of embedded Linux, is an operating system running in the Google/HTC G1 mobile phone. It is an open sourced OS, people can grab the core codes to tweak around and it can be run in various hardware with different brands.

Hold my believe that there will be many branded mobile phone manufacturers in China adopting this OS to run it in their products, since it's cheaper than those Symbian and Windows Mobile with the same functionality but greater flexibility in technical terms.

Here is an emulator with development tool kit SDK to run on a normal PC, a generic core OS has been included, that said no specific hardware and cost is needed for the core development. That hence keeps the development of applications in low costs. The emulator is free of charge and convenient for hardware and software developers to build their own mobile phones with specific supplementary applications like music players, GPS and ebook readers just named a few.
